Once upon a time a man went into the woods, and asked the trees to give him a piece of wood to use for a particular purpose.

A kind tree "the plane tree" wanted to give him a branch as a sign of good friendship with man. But the man took advantage of the kindness of the tree and used the branch to make his ax

and then he started cutting down the trees.

The plane tree then realised what a big mistake he made and wanted to stop the man from killing his friends and then the plane tree. The crow whose nest was up the tree realised that he would lose not only his house but also his friends. Then the crow shouted at the man.

"No, please no, I will lose my home and everything I have. I do not know where to go and what to do. My whole family lives here and I find my food too. Please, my good man, don't cut down the trees. They offer so much to man. They clean the air, create coolness, rain, feed the animals, and they create beauty around here, you can't do that."

"I don't care about all these, and I'll cut down as many trees as I can to get the wood I need for my home."

"No, no, don't cut me down, I'm dying, I'm lost."

Then the man cut down the plane tree and the rest of the trees and left. But when some time passed, the man realised his mistake. He went into the woods and saw an ugly place without trees, animals and life. Everything was dead and lifeless. He regretted bitterly.

Then he returned to the forest and planted the plane tree and the rest of the trees, so everyone was happy again.

"Thank you, my good man, I'm sure you will never regret it. We will always be inseparable friends."

"And I thank you for giving me my house back. I promise you that from now on, I will be a loyal friend and protector of the trees because they only have good things to offer us, life and beauty."
